A note on data vintages and definitions. Population is the US Census Bureau's 2018-2022 American Community Survey 5-year estimate, loaded for all 15 counties; the total population across Arizona's counties is 7,172,282. Sheriff staffing comes from the US Census Bureau's 2022 Census of Governments Employment survey (March reference period); headcount equals full-time plus part-time positions across function codes 062 (sworn law enforcement), 162 (civilian law enforcement), and 005 (corrections). The Census publishes no true full-time-equivalent figures, and the March snapshot is not directly comparable to a full annual operating budget. All 15 counties are separately reported, with no dashes. Jail capacity has not been loaded. Arizona has no current state agency that inspects or sets standards for county jails (the former Arizona Administrative Code Title 5, Chapter 1, "County Jail Standards," has been repealed); county jail administration sits with each elected sheriff under A.R.S. § 11-441. No downloadable per-facility capacity dataset exists, so the jail column shows a dash for every county. Sheriff department budget data has not been loaded for Arizona; the budget column shows a dash. Sheriff names were collected from the Arizona Sheriffs' Association member directory for the 13 member counties, and from each county's own official sheriff site for the two non-member counties (Pima County and Santa Cruz County); all were machine-verified against those sources in July 2026. All 15 counties are named, with none vacant.
