Edgar County has no independent civilian oversight body for its Sheriff's Office. Illinois has no statewide statute requiring county-level civilian oversight of sheriffs; the SAFE-T Act (Public Act 101-0652, 2021) addresses pretrial detention, use-of-force standards, and a statewide officer misconduct database, but does not require counties to create review boards. The Edgar County Sheriff is an elected constitutional officer under Ill. Const. Art. VII, § 4(a), a status the state constitution shields from elimination by county ordinance.
