Kansas

Kansas's 105 sheriffs are constitutional officers (Kan. Const. Art. 9 § 1), elected as the chief law-enforcement officers of their counties. Kansas has no statewide civilian-oversight statute. The Wyandotte County / Kansas City Unified Government (1997) is the state's only consolidated city-county; both its police department and its separate sheriff's office operate without civilian oversight bodies.
