Michigan

Michigan's elected county sheriffs are constitutional officers, and no Michigan county has enacted a standing external civilian oversight body specifically covering the sheriff. Wayne County (Detroit) operates a Legislative Auditor General office that performs financial and performance audits of the Sheriff's Office, but that is an audit function of the County Commission — not a civilian complaint or misconduct oversight body. The Detroit Board of Police Commissioners covers only Detroit Police, a city agency.
