A note on data vintages and definitions. Population is the US Census Bureau's 2018-2022 American Community Survey 5-year estimate. Sheriff staffing comes from the US Census Bureau's Census of Governments - Employment 2022 (March reference period); headcount equals full-time plus part-time positions across function codes 062 (sworn law enforcement), 162 (civilian law enforcement), and 005 (corrections). The Census publishes no true full-time-equivalent figures, and the March payroll snapshot is not directly comparable to a full annual operating budget. Marshall County is not separately reported in that dataset and shows "—" for staffing. County jail data has not yet been loaded for Oklahoma; the eventual source is expected to be the Oklahoma State Department of Health, which reviews jail construction plans and inspects every detention center at least annually under the Oklahoma Jail Standards Act (74 O.S. sections 192-194, amended by SB595 in 2025) (oklahoma.gov). Sheriff department budget data has not yet been loaded for Oklahoma. Sheriff names were collected from each county's official web presence (Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma county profiles, county government sites, and sheriff office sites), supplemented by the Oklahoma State Election Board's 2024 Roster of State and County Officers (oklahoma.gov), and machine-verified against those sources in July 2026. All 77 counties are named. Three counties had appointed officeholders as of July 2026: Bryan County (Joey Tucker, appointed April 2025 after the death of Sheriff Johnny Christian, serving until a 2026 election), Coal County (Kenny Pibworth, interim since December 2025 while removal proceedings against the suspended elected sheriff were pending as of spring 2026), and Cleveland County (Darrell Weaver, sworn July 6, 2026 to complete the term after his predecessor resigned).
